A United States Department of Labor Employee Benefits Workshop

Congresswoman Jahana Hayes is partnering with the United States Department of Labor to present an Employee Benefits Workshop. The workshop will take place at the Simsbury Public Library on September 5th at 5:30pm. Please feel free to share the flyer (see below) with any employees or employers you feel may be interested.

Strong fiduciary oversight and protecting workers’ benefits are among the highest priorities of the U.S. Department of Labor.  However, understanding and complying with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) can be challenging for anyone, especially small and medium sized employers with limited time, resources and/or access to professional assistance. This workshop will help small businesses and plan service providers understand the types of retirement plans available, the tax benefits and consequences of each, along with the federal law governing these type plans. It will also help employees better understand how work and life changes can affect their health coverage and provide information about how they can maintain or obtain health coverage when work or life changes happen to them.

The laws covered in this workshop include COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and the Affordable Care Act.
